Dogs and a box of tissues

It seems I have become facebook friends with over a dozen pet rescues, shelters, or in general, dog lovers.
I enjoy the camaraderie we 'dog people' have, but part of me regrets these new friendships. Seeing all the pictures of unwanted, abandoned, neglected, even abused dogs in various shelters across the country, most of them under the threat of being put to sleep if they aren't rescued or adopted by a certain date, simply breaks my heart, and many times, has brought me to tears. I wish I could help them all, but I know I can't, so day after day, I see the pictures of scared, sad, confused eyes and faces, wondering what happened to them, wondering why they are there, not understanding what they did wrong to end up in such a place. And chances are, they probably didn't do anything wrong, just ended up in the hands of the wrong 'owner'. So as I grab another kleenex, I look at more helpless pictures, and then go home and promise my sweet Lady that she will NEVER be in a place like that, that she will always be loved and taken care of. She doesn't know it, but she is one of the lucky ones. Please help prevent more of the unlucky ones by having your pet spayed or neutered. Our local SPCA is offering discounted, or in some cases, free spay and neuter for pets. Remember, don't buy or breed - adopt, and your love will be returned. A dog is truly man's best friend, a real BFF!

I'm bbaaaccckkkk!!!

 ,
It has been two years since my last blog...wow, time flies! I am really considering picking it up again. I have missed meandering on about certain topics, and several friends and past loyal readers have expressed their opinion that I should start writing again, how they have actually missed it! I won't mention them by name, but you know who you are NC and MC, JM, BJ and WJ, FK, MA, BK, and JT! So, that being said, it has been two whole years now since hubby and I have had the Cavalier Diner. It has been a 2 year long roller coaster ride, but one we wouldn't have missed for anything. The people we have met, the friends we have made, has made it all worthwhile. Furthermore, seeing a small, off the radar eatery slowly but very gradually grow and get more recognition has been heartwarming, making us believe that despite the very poor economy, we are on the right track. Of course, the help of friends has been a boon, trying to send business our way, trying to get their workplace to place orders with us, getting us the occasional catering gig...so many thanks to all, and keep up the good work! I can't sign off before mentioning the princess of our home...Miss Lady is now 5 years old, and under 70 pounds thanks to a diet the vet made us put her on. She told us that larger dogs are prone to joint probs when they get older, which can be made worse and even shorten life spans if the dog is overweight. Because we adore our sweet Lady and want her to be around for as long as possible, she went on a diet. Lady naturally does NOT understand why she has been getting less food and fewer treats,  much to her dismay, and she probably never will, but baby, it is for your own good!
